Music takes the best of me, as I have always been an introverted music enthusiast. By writing my own music, I am able to express myself, and by singing, I am able be who I am. Without music, my life journey would be nothing but an empty road.

Cherly is an Indonesian musician, currently residing in Taipei, Taiwan. Her love for choral music grows from her experience singing in the choir; previously sung in Feixiang Choir, Paramabira, Batavia Madrigal Singers, and Asia Pacific Youth Choir batch 2019, she is now singing as an alto in Taipei Chamber Singers. She was the music director of Feixiang Choir from 2012-2021. Together with Feixiang Choir, she has achieved numerous awards in both national and international choir competitions such as the 33rd Praga Cantat 2019, where they won two gold diplomas in Mixed Choir and Sacred categories, and also won Best Interpretation for Compulsory Works (Napadly písně by Antonín Dvořák).

In Sanggar Musicasa Jakarta she developed her vocal skills under the tutelage of Joseph Kristanto Pantioso and studied conducting under the tutelage of Budi Utomo Prabowo. Cherly has participated in some conducting masterclasses by Mark Anthony Carpio, Brady Allred, and Nicolas Fink. In 2021, she received a scholarship from National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) where she then studied music composition under the tutelage of Prof. Wen-Pin Hope Lee. She also honed her conducting skills further by attending Dr. Chia-Fen Weng’s and Prof. Sigmund Thorp’s conducting classes. During her time studying in NTNU, Cherly was granted several scholarships for her excellence in her study. 

While her works are dominated by choral music, Cherly also write music for solo, chamber, and orchestra with a various range of genre. She also receives commissioned projects by choirs and other music groups as well as companies and institutions, with recent projects including composition of a new hymn for her alma mater, BINUS University Jakarta, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Japanese. Cherly has also been appointed to judge several choral competitions and composition competitions in Indonesia.

Beside composing and arranging music, Cherly is currently active as the conductor of AMDG Choir Taipei, an international community church choir of the English mass in Guting Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Some of Cherly’s choral works are currently published globally, among the publishers are Muziksea LLP (Singapore) and Tabernacle Women’s Choir (Taiwan). Cherly also actively conducts masterclass and workshop, focusing in Indonesian choral music.
